A cyber-attack is any deliberate attempt to gain unauthorised access to a computer system, network, or data with the intent to steal, damage, or disrupt operations. Several key signs can indicate that a cyber-attack is happening or has occurred.
From an end user prospective, these are the signs of cyber-attacks.
You are now being targeted by a cyber-attacker!
1. Unusual Account Activity
Unauthorised logins from unknown locations, multiple failed login attempts, and unexpected changes to account settings or credentials may indicate a potential security breach.
2. Suspicious Emails or Messages (Phishing Attacks)
Emails from unknown senders requesting sensitive information, containing malicious links or attachments, or pressuring immediate action may indicate a phishing attack.
3. Ransomware Warnings or Locked Files
Messages demanding payment to unlock files, along with encrypted files bearing unknown extensions (e.g., .locked, .crypt), are clear signs of a ransomware attack.

4. Unexpected System Behaviour
Slow computer or network performance, frequent crashes, and unexplained system restarts or shutdowns may indicate a potential cyber attack.
5. Unauthorised Software or Processes Running or Network Traffic
Unrecognised applications, high CPU or memory usage from unknown processes, and unexpected pop-ups or browser redirects may indicate a security threat. Unusual network traffic is detected with large amounts of unexpected data transfer and high outbound traffic, possibly indicating data exfiltration.
6. Data Breaches or Unauthorised Access
Unauthorised access to confidential files, unknown users in system logs, and sudden loss of access to important files or accounts may signal a data breach.
7. Financial Irregularities
Unauthorised transactions or changes in financial records, including fake invoices or payment requests, have been detected.
